Thou hast arrived at a promotional poster for the Independent Shakespeare Festival's annual Shakespeare in the Park performance. This project is visualized with the gritty, urban aesthetic common among the streets and signage of major metropolitan areas.
PROCESS
This project travelled a long way from its unfocused and clumsy, typography heavy first iterations. Hours spent lurking on the Instagram page for the Independent Shakespeare Company led me to understand that a design solution which captures the attitude of Los Angeles could speak evenly about both the content and form.
IDEATION
After researching the plots of King Lear and As You Like It I decided that focusing on Shakespeare as an image was far less complex and dense as the imagery within the stories. Through ideation I learned that focusing too heavily on either typography or imagery resulted in an unbalanced composition. I also learned that Shakespeare wore things called doublets and breeches.
